Yes, we’re SLOBs and proud of it!

Our very good friend and neighbor, Joe Grant (Grant’s Marketplace) has spearheaded a wonderful new concept aimed at bringing together independent, quality-focused businesses throughout San Diego. The S.L.O.B website is just starting to launch with new businesses being added as we speak. There is a very strong community focus with several excellent local merchants creating the site’s foundation. By working together to promote independent businesses, the site reminds us that it really is the local merchants, shops, restaurants, etc. that make communities thrive. There is nothing like the personal relationships we establish, the services we provide, and the amount of fun we all have working together. Here is a little sample from last week’s local broadcast introducing Joe and a couple of us local South Park businesses. Both Alchemy and South Bark Dog Wash (also featured) can be found in our list of links at right >>
We have some wonderful new teas and teaware in stock. We’ll be posting more about these in the coming days. We hope you all are well. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop on in for a taste!
Thanks so much for checking in.

A Proper Introduction

Polaroid photo: Ian Cuevas (more here)
Chances are, if you have been in the shop during the past five months or so, you probably recognize this lovely person. Christina began working with us back in January and has been such a welcomed addition to the Halcyon Tea family. She was first introduced to tea by a college friend and become an avid tea lover when she stumbled upon our shop during a South Park Walkabout. She likes to start her mornings with our Sencha Shan Izumi and has fallen in love with our loose Pu-erhs as her afternoon drink of choice. Cloudy, Sunday morning brunches are paired with stovetop-cooked Indian Chai, and movie nights are often accompanied by a cup of Restful Calm. If you haven’t met her, come by our next 5:00 Friday and introduce yourself. Thanks so much for joining us, Christina.
Lots of new, great things in the shop! 2010 Jungpana 1st-flush Darjeeling is now in stock along with new Japanese canisters, Tokoname Kyusu, Chawan (matcha bowls), new BeeHouse items, miscellaneous accessories, and more new teas we’ll talk about in a forthcoming post. Stop on by!
Thanks so much for checking in. We appreciate your interest. More to come.

The Story of Tea
June 10, 2010 | Leave a Comment

I just wanted to share these snaps from a wonderful little book that was given to us by a new customer of ours. I was honored to receive it and have loved sharing this little token with other customers. The book is traditionally bound and opens into an accordion fold with wooden front and back covers. Just a humble little treasure with beautiful illustrations depicting the step-by-step process of crafting Chinese tea. If you’re at the shop, be sure to have a look!
More new teas on the way. We are waiting for 2010 sencha along with an additional first-flush Darjeeling. We are re-stocking the Competition Tikuanyin as it has nearly sold out. There is just a small amount left!
Don’t forget to join us for 5:00 Friday tomorrow. This continues to be a lot of fun, and it’s something we always look forward to.
As always, thanks so much for checking in.
