Changes: New Works by Andrew Holder
Andrew Holder
is a recent graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasedena,
California, and his talent has earned him shows in Australia, San Francisco, and now in his home away from home, San Diego. His work has a hint of Scandinavian folk-art with a modern-day twist. Sleepy seaside towns and country landscapes are prominent in his pieces, made up of simple geometric shapes and organic line work. Subtext is a very fine venue, and this promises to be a great event. We’ll be there for sure.

I don’t know much about UK designer Bethan Laura Wood, but I must say I love much of her work I’ve seen. Check out her site to view some of her 3D design projects. Two of my favorites are Stain and Time for Tea. It’s always nice to see people thinking differently about design in the everyday. Ms. Wood does this while blurring the lines of art, design and function.

In shop news, our Tea 101 class filled up quickly! If you missed this round, please give us a call at the shop and let us know if you’re interested in a second session. If we get an overflow of enough people, we will run the session again within the next two weeks. Thanks so much to everyone who signed up; we really appreciate your interest (and yours too, dear reader).

Lots more good stuff going on. Stay tuned!

Thanks for checking in.

1. Featured Tea: Silver Needle (Bai Hao Yin Zhen)
A very fine white tea made solely from tender, down-covered leaf buds. Lightly-colored liquor and smooth, subtle flavor with sweet hints of honey and mild apricot. Delicate with a velvety mouthfeel, this is a lovely example of a true white tea.

2. Featured Teaware: Chawan
These traditional tea bowls are the perfect vessel for whisking Japanese powdered green tea (matcha). A beautiful blend of function and aesthetics, these Chawan reflect the raw, Wabi sensibility of beauty in natural form. Beautiful wares elevate our experience and add another dimension to our daily preparations.

We will also provide an overview of tea preparation guidelines and basic teaware knowledge. We will taste several teas as a means to help illustrate the curriculum while also furthering our appreciation of the world’s most consumed prepared beverage. Sessions are limited to 10 participants. The course fee is $10 per person and payment guarantees your reservation for the session. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
