South Park Walkabout Tomorrow!
July 16, 2010 | Leave a Comment

Yes, it’s that time of year! We are really looking forward to the South Park Walkabout. It’s happening tomorrow, Saturday, July 17th from 6 to 10 pm. This one is shaping up to be an excellent event with two bands, a vintage goods pop-up shop led by our good friend Gabe Salcedo (GS Cicleria and The Vintage Scout), lots of free iced tea, snacks, and great people. Next door, at MCM Gallery, be sure to check out the opening of a new exhibition featuring the works of local artist Lindy Ivey.

We’ll be sure to have plenty of our much-loved iced hibiscus tea on tap, along with a couple of others. We hope to see you there!
New teaware in stock, and we have re-upped on some spring teas that sold out rather quickly. Also, 5:00 Friday is happening tonight! I’ll be at the helm pouring some cooling white and green teas for the evening. Stop by for a taste!
We are enjoying some beautiful weather here at the shop. We hope you’re having a great Friday. As always, thanks so much for checking in.

The Jin Fo Gold Buddha Reserve is a new favorite that you’ll want to get a taste of. We will also sample some new early harvest Dragonwells we are considering for the list, along with a few other interesting teas.
Hope to see you here! Thanks for checking in.

Join us today for another 5:00 Friday. It’s always a good time. We’ll try another round or two of our Russian style blend and today will be the last day to submit names for the contest. Since we pushed the deadline back a bit, we will decide on the winning entry next week. The winner will be contacted by email and will receive a new Tea for One teapot/cup combo. along with an ounce of the tea they named. Come on out! We’d love to see you.
Thanks for checking in!

A Friday/Saturday To-Do List
March 26, 2010 | 2 Comments

FRIDAY: Come to 5:00 Friday today at Halcyon Tea!
We’ll be having our usual fun today starting at 5:00 and going until 7:00. What do you feel like tasting? Last week was packed to the gills and we had a blast. Join us for another round! Oh yeah, we have had a few requests for smoky black teas in the Russian Caravan style (smoky, but not purely Lapsang Souchong). If you’re feeling bold enough tonight, help us as we try out some blends. BONUS: Submit your ideas for what to call the new blend. Winning selection will have their tea name added to the list where it will bask in glory for years to come. But wait! There’s more! The winner will also receive a Forlife Tea for One pot/cup combination. Winning selection will be announced the following week and we will notify you via email. Good stuff!
SATURDAY: South Park Walkabout! Tomorrow, 3/27
Yep, it’s time again, and we are really excited for this year’s Spring Walkabout. It’s always a blast with so many great people cruising around the neighborhood, free trolley service from Beech Street to Juniper, free tea, snacks, music, etc. We are so proud to be a part of the South Park business community. Come out and support your independent neighborhood businesses and have tons of fun doing it. It all starts at 6 pm. We look forward to seeing you!
Lastly, I got a little bit of good-hearted flack from a few different people for not updating the blog over the past week. I’ll be better, I swear! Just been super busy with some good things, so keep an eye out and we’ll be posting much more regularly.
A quick, “Hello!” to our newest friend, Vida from Atlanta. Thanks for coming out and sharing tea with us!
And thank you all for checking in. More soon!

Bird’s Eye View: 5:00 Friday
February 28, 2010 | Leave a Comment

I love this shot of a recent 5:00 Friday session. After enough oolong I guess people can start to climb on things, which is how our buddy Chad got this shot. I dig it. It is always so much fun sharing tea with our Friday evening folks. If you need a new way to start your Friday nights, tea with us is a great transition between work and your evening play. See friends you know, start a conversation with someone you just met…tea is, among many things, a wonderful unifying element. Thanks to all of you that come in to share tea with us. We really enjoy having you.
Hope your weekend was a great one. Thanks for checking in!

5:00 Friday Today!
February 26, 2010 | Leave a Comment
No, you didn’t read that wrong. We’re making a couple of tweaks to our Friday format. 4:00 Friday has usually been more like 4:45 or 5:00 Friday due to people getting off work, etc. So, we hereby christen our Friday tea time as 5:00 Friday. Of course, if you showed up earlier, we’ll just start when you get here!
Okay, one more thing. Rather than selecting a featured tea every week, we are going to open it up to more of a “you call it” format. We have often gone this route anyway. Once the tea starts flowing things just naturally unfold into a tea party atmosphere (don’t worry, no doilies are involved). Before you know it, we start pulling random teas of the shelf to taste, compare, and contrast. It’s just fun, and it leaves a lot of room for mood, group preferences and tastes, etc
We have had so much fun on Friday evenings, and encourage you to definitely come in and experience the evening if you haven’t already. Good people and good tea—what more do you need.
See you tonight! Thanks for checking in.

4:00 Friday: Vietnam Yen Bai
February 12, 2010 | Leave a Comment

This week’s featured tea (10% off all week): Vietnam Yen Bai
This gem of a tea hails from Viet Nam’s Yen Bai Province. This finely-crafted selection yields a rich amber cup with mild fruit and sweet spice notes and a balanced maltiness. If you love Assam teas, this is one to check out. Excellent taken straight, milk can be added if preferred.
On tap all night until 7 pm. See you here!

4:00 Friday: Gold Buddha Wuyi Oolong
January 22, 2010 | 1 Comment

This week’s featured tea (10% off all week): Gold Buddha Wuyi Oolong
Yes indeed, in spite of the rain (and hail!) we will have the water on and the oolong flowing. Gold Buddha is a great choice for today: full, round and warm. These long, dark leaves are high-fired to produce a robust tea reminiscent of dark chocolate up-front with a mild sweetness and lingering notes of peach. This is a fun one to explore with different times and different amounts of tea.
Go slow out there, and we’ll see you for tea! Hope your Friday has been a good one!
Thanks for checking in.
